Bees

This morning a group of us gathered in the Youth Room to watch a DVD called Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us?  It is a documentary about the plight of bees and bee colonies as a result of the commercial practices of big agri-business corporations.  The problems are serious and could impact the food supply since honey bees pollinate plants.  Featured were a number of beekeepers who nurture colonies in harmony with nature’s rhythms.  The movie encouraged us to become home beekeepers ourselves.  Next week a speaker from an apiary in Jackson is going to come and talk to us about beekeeping.  I couldn’t be a beekeeper myself because a childhood allergy to stinging insects has left me too wary of them, but my wife plans to keep them.  We finished today’s session, of course, by singing Let There Be Bees On Earth.
