Unusual mixtures interest me: the pro-life feminist, for example, or the gay man on his way to firearms practice, etc. Any creative mixing of things.
So this article about Muslim believers in Jesus (Isa) caught my attention. To critiques about syncretism, or blending of two religions, one such believer responds,
Syncretism did not start with us. It started even in Paul’s time. That was the reason Paul wrote the Epistle to the Galatians. It is not [an] issue because we are Muslims; syncretism starts because people normally start with their own religious background. When [Muslim] people start to think about Isa intentionally, the Holy Spirit has room to lead them into all truth, even if they first mix Isa and Muhammad. The Holy Spirit through time will glorify Isa al Masih [Jesus the Messiah] in their lives.
I suppose we all are syncretistic in some way. I am praying that the creative mixtures in my life will bear fruit as the Spirit of Isa leads me deeper into truth.

..I think it is arguable that Christianity is the pinnacle of syncretism, based on the ancient history and practices of various other religions before, during and after the time of Christ. This would’nt be the first time someone has accused Early Christianity of adopting certain practices, beliefs and symbols from the pagans and heathens of it’s time .In fact,it is still happening to this very day as the Christian religion ‘evolves’ ever further under the influence of modern culture…
Syncretism comes from a Greek word for a federation of cities on Crete. Hmm.
