The Good Shepherd

I drove down to Toledo today, walked at the mall, browsed a bookstore, and visited my Mom. Then I got a call from the church telling me a parishioner had been taken to Toledo Hospital with heart issues. So I ended up spending a couple of hours at the hospital too. The parishioner was doing well. I stopped at the hospital chapel there; I have long admired this artwork over the altar. I don’t know its name, but I call it the Good Shepherd.

…This has me pondering the various Symbols used since the time of the Christ to denote Christian spirituality. It’s my understanding that the first symbols used were a Fish and also an (boat) Anchor. <
It's curious to me that/why a Tree was never considered.

A seashell is an ancient symbol of Christian baptism. Creeds are sometimes called symbols of the faith.

…evidently, from what i’ve read, the earliest known depiction of Jesus as ‘The Good Shepard’ was found on a wall in the catacombs under Rome. The animal on His shoulders appears to be a goat, because it has horns.
    I did’nt know the seashell factoid.. <
